May 2017 Pastor’s Perspective

May is a month of planting and gardening.  It is the time for prom, finals, end of year field trips, graduations, moving out of dorms, and making summer plans.  Baseball, softball, t-ball and track all overlap.  It is the time to enjoy the outdoors before the bugs get too thick and the air too hot and humid.  It is a great month of exciting events and changes.

May at Fairbury UMC is an outreach month.   Special plans are in place for a May Day outreach.  Two missionary families will be with us in worship to share their most recent and ongoing work.  The Kodavantikati family will be here on Mother’s Day to share about their most recent six months of work in India offering Christ and a home to orphaned children.  The McMichael family will be here on May 28 to share about their mission work in Morocco.  We support both ministries monthly and now you will get to hear what a difference you are making in people’s lives.

I will be gone the first six days of the month for my fourth week of Academy.  (There are four more weeks to go in the next 12 months, so bear with me!)  I will also take vacation days at the end of the month to travel with a friend in Ontario, Canada.  I always look forward to spending time visiting new places with a great friend from seminary days who lives in central Ohio.

Before I close I want to thank all of you for the wonderful, enriching worship experiences we had during Lent.  It was wonderful to be part of two different groups of churches for weekly worship—one for the churches of Fairbury on Wednesdays and the other for the area UM churches on Sunday afternoons.  For those who were able to be part of these services, thank you.  I also thank everyone who helped lead and prepare for all the special services we hosted, especially Good Friday, Easter Sunrise and Holy Humor.  These all helped us grow in faith and devotion to God.  Thanks to every one of you!
